Unclad Lad - The geology of the west flank is completely different from that of the east. There is no slate best on the east - almost nothing but granites and volcanic rocks. They have been explored, but there are are only a very few gold deposits along the eastern side. The east side deposits have produced perhaps 1/10,000 of the amount of gold from the western side. Once you get way out a ways from the east side and into Nevada, of couse the situation is different again - Nevada still produces lots of gold.
